Nexus is a spectrum efficient, narrow band COFDM digital radio link with a high performance DSP audio CODEC, ideal for use in outside broadcast applications.
Robust second generation digital RF link for multichannel audio and data.
Up to 6 configurable signal paths using only 200 kHz bandwidth.
Microphone, analogue and digital line interfaces.
Low latency and high quality with minimal interferance.
Extended physical range over equivalent analogue.
Diversity receive option and frequency capability up to 6.5 GHz
The Nexus system can provide up to 6 audio channels over a single RF signal using the same technology that is used for broadcasting digital radio (DAB).
The digitised audio data is transmitted using COFDM (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) technology, which spreads the data over a number of individual carrier frequencies. This provides an extremely robust signal which is highly immune to interference and multipath errors whilst only occupying 200 kHz of RF bandwidth.
High quality, with low latency is achieved by using a bit reduction system based on enhanced ADPCM (Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation) software developed specifically for Nexus. This makes audio compression or other processing unnecessary and ensures that the audio signals are not degraded in any way. Depending on the quality required, each audio path may be selected to use either a 'high' or a 'low' bandwidth. In both cases the bit depth is identical but the sample rate is adjusted to provide an audio bandwidth of either 7 kHz (Low - e.g speech) or 14 kHz (High - e.g music).
The number of channels available in the link is therfore dependent on the quality required and may be 2 x 14 kHz channels or up to 6 x 7 kHz channels - each with an associated RS232 data channel.
