RSX Radio Data Modem

Designed for use in telemetry applications, the RSX family of high speed intelligent radio modems incorporate the SXn50 range of high performance multi channel synthesised radio transceivers and provide fully transparent RF data operation at speeds of 38,400 bps.

Unlike the Orion radio modem the RSX radio modem is a dedicated radio modem having a RS232 data interface without any digital or analogue input or output interface lines.

The RSX radio modems can operate in the VHF and UHF bands and are approved to European telemetry specification ETS 300 220 and European mobile radio data standard ETS 300 113

The modems are housed in a small metal enclosure with easy access to RF, data connection and enclosure fixing points. Internal switching allows either 7V or 12V operation with a maximum RF output power of 500mW.

The RSX radio modems allow 4800 or 9600 baud real over air transmission data rate using GMSK (Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying) modulation. Serial data is passed to the modems via an RS232 interface at a data rate of up to 38,400 baud.

To allow flexibility in meeting the user's own operational requirements, the RSX family of modems is supplied with proprietary set-up software. This allows access to all user configurable parameters in addition to providing a link test facility. Various versions of the software are available with facilities such as forward error correction and options for Hayes compatibility.
