Wood & Douglas Ltd is named after the original partnership between Alan Wood and John Douglas. Both were employed in government service, John as a draughtsman and Alan as a physicist, when they began trading as a design consultancy in March 1977. Initially they provided PCB design and manufacture on a sub-contract basis.
By 1979 the Company had leaped ahead, with designer Mike Telkman, a work colleague and fellow radio-amateur, joining the business. Mike designed a range of products to be sold by mail order, aimed at the radio amateur hobbyist market. In 1981 John Douglas resigned with Alan becoming the first full-time employee of Wood & Douglas, followed by Mike in July 1983.
The partnership had originally traded from the partner’s home premises but once full-time trading began it became important to find somewhere as a corporate base. In 1982 a move was made to the Company’s first commercial premises at Young’s Industrial Estate near Aldermaston. The supply of "kit of parts" to radio amateurs grew into providing complex, high quality RF design solutions to commercial customers. Applications involved all manner of use of radio communications for data, voice and video transmission.
Wood & Douglas moved in the autumn of 1989, when the Company purchased its headquarters, Lattice House. Based in the village of Baughurst, Central Southern England, the building is now home to over 50 employees. Facilities at Lattice House include a high capacity SMD assembly line, CAD facilities and radio measurement screened rooms.
The Company became a private Limited liability in 1993, enabling the company to spread into many new markets in both the UK and across the globe. Mike Telkman retired from the Company in 2001 leaving Alan Wood as majority shareholder with key staff holding the balance of the equity.
The purchase and incorporation of the assets of Audix Broadcast and Pacscom into Wood & Douglas Ltd in recent years has allowed the Company to expand both in resources and skills.
Today, Wood & Douglas Ltd serves the data, voice and video transmission markets, both as OEM and end user supplier. The Company has highly skilled staff and the resources to tackle a wide range of tasks, from manufacturing simple VHF transmitters and receivers through to advanced microwave solutions; whether for simple data links or colour video transmission services for military, industrial and commercial applications.
Wood & Douglas Ltd enjoys a hard won reputation as a company that provides quality solutions for radio frequency applications. The key to the Company's success is the professionalism which is apparent in all work that has been undertaken over the 30 year or more of trading history.
Awarded the ISO 9001 approval in 2002, RTTE certification confirms the dedicated approach of Wood & Douglas Ltd in understanding your demands and delivering your design.
